【about design】 Rockrose is a sweater designed for Botanica Collection launched by Isager yarn, a Danish yarn company. Ten designers participated in this collection on the plants, and using Isager yarn and with organic motifs, as distinct from geometric ones, made up a very colorful collection. In Spring 2022, we designers were invited to a gathering in Isager yarn HQ’s atelier in northern Denmark, for the preparation of the collection and spent a weekend together. The two-day stays was wonderful: we got to know each other and got closer, knitting swatches with various yarns and showing our ideas. You can see the collection’s designs on Instagram with the hashtag #isagerbotanica. I designed a sweater using Roosimine technique, a traditional Estonian inlay technique (Roosimine means roses in Estonian). The flower motifs that look embroidered are made by passing yarn between stitches as if you weave in yarn while knitting. I disposed them asymmetrically on the front and shoulders like corsages. Their placement makes it possible to knit them in a single color. You can of course use more or fewer colors to your liking. The sweater is worked from the top down, seamlessly. Short rows are placed to shape the neckline slightly wide, looking like a boat neck. After those neck short rows, the raglan increases and the flower motifs are worked at the same time. The sleeves are rather loose-fitting and worked straight in the round, and the final, evenly-spaced decreases create the round shape tapering towards the cuff. You can also hold 3 or 4 strands of lace mohair yarn together.
