【about design】 A simple triangle shawl in garter stitch yet with a particular construction. Just like in variations on the same themes, small differences in the same construction produce five types of triangles, from a classical right-angled triangle to an extremely shallow one. The pattern also provides instructions for a ruffled border, striped color work, as well as those for making a hole to cross the tips. The construction is very simple. We knit the side border in stockinette stitch first, then make a few decreases to give good elasticity to it. Then we start knitting in garter stitch at the bottom corner and work short rows upwards at regular intervals until the body is filled up and this, with no increases. We just need to knit the top border in stockinette stitch to finish the shawl. The shape variations are created by changing the decrease and short row intervals. This is a perfect portable project, as you will not need to refer to the instructions to work the garter triangle short rows once you have memorized its principle. The pattern also offers tips to achieve 80 (100, 135, 170, 205) cm [31.5 (39.5, 53, 67, 80.5)”]wide shawls in 12 gauges. It also contains a formula to calculate the number of stitches to cast on according to your preferred finished size (shawl’s wingspan). This is a highly customizable pattern, workable in any yarn weight to any size! For swatching, you will knit a mini size shawl with a smaller number of stitches and measure the top side’s length. And since we use this length as the pattern’s gauge, you don’t need to count the number of stitches! The swatch shawl can be offered to your stuffed toy or doll. I hope you enjoy knitting this shawl! ―Midori Hirose 【about pattern】 English text pattern/PDF only. There is no printed version.
